As hard as it is to believe, 2016 has almost come to an end!
So, what does the event industry have to look forward to in 2017?
Here are five of my predictions…
- Enhance the guest experience
As every event professional knows, the guest experience is everything! In 2017, we can look forward to seeing more engaging, digital activations that will be interactive and memorable. Whilst we have already seen interactive displays in recent years, this trend will continue to evolve with the likes of digital gamification with incentivised prizes and interactive inventions that will transform event spaces with engaging décor elements. Guinepig have a selection of playful, interactive products designed to engage with guests at events. Not only does this this trend provide great ice-breakers for effective networking, it will also open the doors for sponsorships, offering branded experiences and perhaps even real time data.
- Video and Live Streaming
Social Media networks like Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram have empowered attendees with the ability to share their experiences with live videos and have perhaps even eliminated that fear of missing out for many on the other end of the video. We will be seeing more live video streaming as we head into 2017. Furthermore, events will continue to provide share-worthy backdrops designed specifically for attendees to take selfies and live videos to post on their social networks. We will also see more account take overs, where celebrities or speakers are given access to a social media account providing guests with a behind-the-scenes perspective thus generating more conversation and buzz online.
- Virtual Reality
This is the start of a huge trend that will continue to evolve in the years to come. CBC recently made it possible for anyone with a smartphone or computer to watch the 2016 Olympic Games in virtual reality with full 360-degree video. We will most likely start to see virtual attendance tickets become available but the most exciting part is that you don’t need expensive head gear to participate. This will extend the audience and revenue streams for future events. Sponsors will also be maximizing on this platform with branded environments and tours. Furthermore, it’s a great tool for event professionals to create room designs and layouts with clients during the planning stages of an event.
- Chill Zones
As we become more and more aware of our need to slow down, practice mindfulness and be present in our daily lives, we can expect to see more ‘chill zones’ at events. An area to sit, relax and meditate. We will also see an increase in speeches and presentations that echo the need for clarity and silence of the mind.
- Data Capture
As technology continues to grow and evolve, it is now considered a primary requirement for the event of the future. The convenience of digital platforms on the go provide a wealth of marketing opportunities as well as planning, ticketing and registration efficiency to name a few. It also serves as an important tool to collect quantifiable data as further innovative and interactive products are developed. This data becomes a driving force for marketing and decision-making as well as increasing ticket sales and sponsorships.
